The kids had an APG play date today. And pumpkin decorating was one of the crafts they did. I decided to make this into an invitation to create by using a partitioned serving tray and lay out the materials for them to use. Before I let them create to their heart's content, I described the different materials to the kids and suggested some ways as well as give instructions on how to use them.
You may need:
- pom poms
- googly eyes
- pipe cleaners
- glue or glitter glue
- sparkly nail vanish
- stickers
- ribbons
- paint (I chose Halloween colors: green, purple & black, no orange because the pumpkin is already orange)
- sponge or brushes
And the rest is up to the child.
A hands-on 2YO creating with joy.
A very meticulous 4YO creating carefully.
And this is PK's little Miss Pumpkin.
So dainty, just like her personality. I like it.
These mini pumpkins are going for only $0.69 each at TJs and it's just the right size for preschoolers and toddlers to decorate. Some kids are minimalist and just want a few things on the pumpkin. Others would color the entire pumpkin until it's no longer orange.
I like the invitation to create set-up. It allows for creativity. There are many more materials out there that you can provide to the child to further their decorations. I give enough to fill up the tray's compartments. Have you decorated your pumpkin yet? This is our fourth pumpkin this year. Check out the others:
