We stepped into a Daiso store yesterday after having lunch next door. It's my weakest link! I left the store with a whole lot of things I didn't know I need. And one of those things are four canvas boards (I swept the last four on the shelf). Today, the kids and I created a sticker-resist art of their names on two of these boards. I'm planning to hang it on their room door.
We knew the stickers were going to be peeled off revealing the negative space, so I got the kids to paint the entire board in a background color that they want. I was going to use watercolors but it seemed easier to make a small portion of koolaid (that also happened to smell really nice). So that's what we did, painting the entire board with koolaid.
As you can see, the kids really love it. The smell makes them kind of extra-happy and zany.
Next, after the koolaid dried up, we pasted stickers and washi tape on the board. This requires cutting, which the girl can already do by herself. But I was the one making the name for the boy.
But he had fun painting (or making a mess!) with every color he can get hold of. I was hoping for a cool-color-shade for his board but he insisted on using every color on the palette. I don't use art palette or paintbrushes with my acrylic paint anymore. Unless precision is needed. I simply recycle plastic trays with partitions or plastic egg cartons and use Q-tips as brushes. At the end of the art project, I just toss everything. Easy clean-up!

After painting and peeling off the stickers. Lovely!
