If you have fruit-lovers like mine, you would probably keep a look out for U-Pick fruit seasons like me. Strawberry U-Pick is now available and we had our first harvest today!
We drove to Santa Cruz for the strawberry picking today. Seriously, I hate the combination of highway 17 and my minivan. The road is windy, some parts are narrow, many cars are way too fast for me. But thankfully, we made it there and back, safely.
As this is the beginning of the season, most of the berries are small, and many are still green. But I kind of like the smaller red ones because the kids can pop them into the mouth and finish them in one bite. Less red juicy mess on the shirts.
P.S. You are not supposed to pick and eat but the kids always do. We just pay extra at check-out.
This is our fourth year strawberry picking but it's BB first time walking n picking the berries. (Last year he was hidden in the baby carrier!) At first he wasn't sure what to do, but soon enough, he was ripping off the red strawberries from every branch. And eating them all!
This is him enjoying the fruit of his fruit picking "labor". Some of the flowers just got pollinated recently and you can see the fruit growing out with petals still intact. A great way to show the preschoolers how flowers grow into fruits. (And a reminder to my daughter not to pick the flowers!)
We had a lunch picnic after the kids had enough running around the strawberry fields. It was a lovely day today by the ocean, not too sunny, not too windy. Just the right weather for an awesome nature date with friends.
Here's some strawberry picking tips!
