Today we hosted a tea party art play date for a bunch of friends. The kids were of varying age group but they play well together nevertheless. This is our set-up.
I was really nervous about the play date because I wasn't sure if the kids were able to handle the projects. But the mommies were patient and the kids were ready to explore new things. This makes a good start.
None of the kids notices the easel. I think it was a little crowded in the dining room today and the easel was situated in a less appealing corner. But the kids love the plastic egg tea cups :)
We had four activities set out today and the kids took their time to explore.
1. Decorate a cookie on the easel with dry erase markers.
2. Name a teacup with letter stickers. The teacups were made from plastic Easter egg and buttons.
3. Paint a Spring garden flower stick and butterfly clips.
4. Pretend tea party play
The painting station was a little messier but happened to be the favorite of many. The older kids were able to paint more independently while the younger ones were still trying to explore the texture of paint. It was last minute, but with some toilet paper rolls, I made some teacups for the kids to paint too!
Using Q-tips instead of regular paintbrushes is a good idea here because I didn't want to rinse so many brushes. And many brushes are made too long for toddlers' hands but Q-tips are just the right size. :) With the short length of Q-tips there is no toppling over of "brushes"!
Oh, do you also love my egg carton paint palette? Yeah, I love those. Reuse and toss, no wash!
We set up a table for a nice tea party for the kids. It was really cute before the little ones (i.e. BB) started destroying the table set-up. Luckily I got a picture of this before the gang arrives.
So glad to make it through with everyone and so much fun. We are so going to do this again!
