Yes, we are all ready for Halloween! Love it! Everything except for Elsa is handmade by me. I feel proud. :)
We went to a mall today for another Halloween event. Daddy is back in SJ today, so we went out as a Frozen family!
This is Elsa and Olaf looting from a witch's pot!
My Kristoff and Olaf. Aren't they both soooooooo cute?
I started making the three costumes two weeks ago. Luckily I was able to pull it off. These are my online references.
Olaf:
I followed this Olaf costume tutorial and made BB his Halloween costume this year. This is the best costume I made! I did not add stuffings to the vest because I want him to be easy to be held in my baby carrier. And I sewed a hood for him on the vest to make it easy to put that "Olaf" face on him. I used the remaining white fleece and made a pair of long pants (nighttime use) and a pair of shorts (daytime use).
Things I used:
- white no-pill fleece (1yard)
- black felt
- brown felt
- orange felt
- white sports zipper
How?
I used a BB size vest that he is wearing now as a guide. Then I added a hood. Following the Olaf pictures from PK's book, I made the face on the hood. I used scrap white fleece as my stuffs for the nose. You can use regular stuffings too. Then I sewed the bottoms (long pants and shorts) according to those that fit BB now.
Anna:
I followed this Anna cape tutorial but made it into adult size. I did not use lace for the trimming but used my sewing machine and made some decorative stitches instead. This saves me some money :)
Things I used:
- pink linen (2yards)
- black pompoms trimming (2yards barely enough)
How?
The cape is a very long vest. After seeing the Olaf costume, I'm very good at sewing vests. Then I added the circular cape over the vest. Finish it up with pompoms trimming and decorative stitches and you are set.
I already have a blue dress that is royal blue in color so I wore it. Not seen in this picture is the black tank I have over the blue dress. The turquoise sleeves are my sunscreen sleeves I got from Daiso. I used them while driving sometimes.
Kristoff:
Found this no-sew Kristoff costume tutorial and decided to make one for Daddy. I sewed the vest for Daddy because I do not trust glue as much.
Things I used:
- charcoal grey no-pill fleece (1/2 yard)
- brown yarn
- pink linen (left over from Anna's cape)
How?
I made a vest for Daddy using one of his t-shirt as a size reference. Cut the grey fleece according to the t-shirt template but without the sleeve. Sew accordingly to make a vest. (Sorry there is no picture to help.) Cut a V for the front neckline. Using the pink linen (or bias tape), sew the hem of the neckline. Make a collar for the vest that tapers towards the V neckline. Finish it off with a waist belt using the pink linen and brown yarn at the arm hole.
What is your family dress up as this year? I like it that we appear as a team. This is what family means :)
