We were at the Children Discovery Museum today. The very first place that the girl wanted to go to is the Art Loft. It's funny how she does so much art at home and still wants to do more art outside the house.
Today's theme is still life drawing and the staff set up three tables of very cool assortment of items for the kids to observe, explore and draw. We sat down at a table, in front of us was this really artistic and abstract display of objects. I found a focus for the girl and get her to draw a small portion of the display.
She did awesome pencil drawing of what she sees. Very good observation and concentration over there. Then she painted it with a watercolor palette of only six colors: red, blue, yellow, black, white and brown. I like the limitation and seized the chance to get her to blend her colors to get a different color or shade.
Painting beside the mom
Must be very tedious because halfway through, she asked to switch medium to colored pencils which were also provided by the museum. She drew in a vase with some flowers. And I guide her to color the table. The table we sat at was a beautiful polished wooden table. I gave her three shades of brown and asked her to match them to the colors of the wood grain.
According to the girl, this part was fun, especially the use of different shades. It is very interesting to recreate something so natural and beautiful and she really likes it.
This is her masterpiece. I really love it.
