While BB was napping, I decided to leave aside the chores and spend some time with PK. Since it's still February and love is forever in the air, I introduced PK to mandala art.
Mandala art originates in the Hindu religion and is used mainly for mediation purposes. It has been widely used in other religions too. A mandala is a repetitive geometric design usually within a circle or square. Today, we are just making use of the idea to make concentric patterns around a heart.
We first started out with a central heart. PK drew a rather big heart and colored it red.
Then we took turns doing another layer around the heart. This was necessary for us because it was our first time doing mandala and I wanted PK to get comfortable doing this. So there were two mandala going on as we exchanged our papers after every layer.
Controlling the pen is still an issue for the 4YO so some of her layers do not look like a heart. I kind of salvage it by drawing a heart in the next layer. This isn't necessary as the design can turn out abstract in any way too.
Okay, she doesn't want photos...
This is the other completed mandala. I left her to finish up as BB woke up from his nap. Looking really cute with concentric hearts in rainbow colors.
Then she decided to make it into a card. She used another artwork from APG play date and created a four-fold card, for Daddy.
Love the creativity and the thought put into this card. Everything is for Daddy these days. I'm getting a little envious.
