We are celebrating BB first birthday today and it's train party! I created a few train stations for the kids to play and one of the train stops is Rainbow Volcano Land. Wow, volcano fun!!! Beware of random eruptions! PK had a blast this morning before the guests arrive.
You will need:
- plastic containers/cups/glass jar
- flour, salt, water for play dough (see play dough recipe here)
- dilute dish soap
- baking soda
- vinegar
I reused plastic containers and cups to make the vent of the volcano. With some colored homemade play dough, I mould the shape of volcano around each container. Pour dish soap over the dough to ward the ants away.
Add a generous scoop of baking soda and some food coloring into the containers. The colors make it more attractive for the kids to play. You can probably use watercolors too. When the kids are ready, give them a cup of vinegar each. This is a lot of fun and the kids will keep coming back for more! So, I just devised a trick - dilute the vinegar (50% water and 50% vinegar) so you get double the amount of liquid for 1 gallon of reaction. The result is still very eruptive!
We did this in the backyard so that PK and her friends have plenty of space to move around. I do not mind the spill at all because it is non toxic for BB and it can help me kill the weeds! If since is a constrain, you can build your volcano indoors too, atop a tray.
Try it and tell me how much fun you have!
